Electrocuted Workman Has Died: Woonsocket Police

Police said the man died on Saturday afternoon. He had suffered life-threatening injuries and had been transferred to Rhode Island Hospital.

WOONSOCKET, RI—A man died Saturday afternoon after being electrocuted the previous day,Woonsocket police said. He was painting a house on Park Place and was using an hydraulic lift when the accident happened around 1 p.m. The bucket touched the power lines, and he was shocked. According to Det. Capt. Michael Lemoine, "a co-worker, who was on the ground, was able to lower the lift." Medics took him to Landmark Medical Center. From there he was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital. The 64-year-old, whose name is not being released at this time, died at Rhode Island Hospital.

The injured man is from Pawtucket, police said.

National Grid has confirmed a man working on a Woonsocket house came into contact with the power lines.

"Around 1PM we were notified that a member of the public who was working at a house in Woonsocket had come in contact with one of our wires," Ted Kresse said. "We immediately deployed crews to the scene to de-energize the local area so first responders could provide assistance and ensure the public's safety. At this time we have no further details to offer, but we will continue to work with authorities as they examine what happened."
