Woonsocket Police: Two Teens Charged Over Middle School Lockdown

The 13-year-old boys were charged after an investigation over bullets found in a boys' bathroom at the Hamlet Avenue middle school.

WOONSOCKET, RI—Two 13-year old boys are facing charges after a janitor found bullets in a boys' bathroom at the Woonsocket Middle School on Feb. 16. Woonsocket police said their names are not being released because they are juveniles. The principal and other school officials reported the discovery to police around 2 p.m.

Police searched the building for any guns and intruders and found nothing. Although classes had been dismissed earlier, a few teachers and students were still in the building, and they were told to stay inside classrooms while the school went on lockdown, the schools superintendent said earlier. Officers went back to the school over the weekend and swept the building again.

Meanwhile, police were investigating who brought the ammunition into the school. According to police Det. Sgt. Matthew Ryan, "we have made two arrests." Both accused are being charged with Possession of Ammunition on school grounds. One is also being charged with Disorderly Conduct. They have been referred to court.
