A Day in the Life of a Sailor
Board Charleston's only reproduction 17th century sailing ketch, Adventure, docked in Old Towne Creek. Discover some of the many aspects of maritime trade and travel during the 17th century. See some of the tools used by sailors and some of the products they shipped. Saturday, Aug. 13, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Charles Towne Landing at 1500 Old Towne Road. Admission: $7.50/adult; $3.75/S.C. Sweetgrass Basket Making Class
Lowcountry artisan, Vera Manigault will teach attendees how to create their own Sweetgrass baskets with native Muhlenbergia capillaris (pink muhlygrass). Class is open to anyone 12 or older. Catalyst Hoop Jam
One-and-a-half hours of hooping, poi spinning, juggling, drumming and fun! All are welcome. Saturday, Aug. 13, 3 - 4:30 p.m. at Catalyst Creative Arts Studio, 13 Amy Elsey Drive. Cost $5.
Coastal Carolina Orchid Society Social and Auction
The Coastal Carolina Orchid Society is a non-profit organization affiliated with the American Orchid Society offering people interested in orchids in the Charleston area an opportunity to learn more about orchids and interact with other orchid enthusiasts. Sunday, Aug. 14, 12:30 p.m. at the Sherman House at 1635 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd.
Polish American Citizenship Day and Dessert Potluck
Hosted at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd. by the South Carolina Polish American Club, Polish desserts and coffee will be served from 2-5 p.m. in the Church kitchen. Participants are asked to bring Polish desserts. Michael Sikorski, representative of the Consular Division of the Embassy of Poland, will host a presentation on Polish citizenship from 1-2 p.m., followed by provision of consular duties until 5 p.m. Consul services are available by appointment only, to enroll email washington.consular@msz.gov.pl or call 202-234-3800 ext. 2201
