Check your mailbox: Charleston County resending thousands of tax assessment notices
Real property assessment notices went out in June, but several factors lead to the need to resend thousands of the notices

CHARLESTON - Thousands of residents and business owners didn't receive their reassessment notices when Charleston County initially mailed them out in June, prompting the county to try again.
Factors including address changes, property owners who stopped their mail while out of town and the U.S. Post Office being unaware that some LLCs (Limited Liability Company) and trusts were housed at the addresses to which the notices were sent added to about 8,100 reassessment notices failing to reach the property owners, according to a statement from the Charleston County Assessors Office.
“These assessment notices may ultimately affect property owners’ taxes, so we’re making special efforts to reach everybody,” said Toy Glennon, Charleston County Assessor. “Even though it is the owner’s responsibility to update mailing addresses, we’re making special efforts to reach as many people as we can.”
