Arrests, major crimes and odd incidents reported in West Ashley

The blotter is compiled from incident and arrest reports filed by the City of Charleston Police Department and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office in the West Ashley area, which includes ZIP codes 29407 and 29414. Persons charged with a crime are innocent until proved guilty.
West Ashley man jumped outside home
CHARLESTON - Sheriff's deputies are looking for four men who jumped a West Ashley man outside his home on Gardenia Road last Thursday.

Officers interviewed the victim at Roper St. Francis where he woke up after the assault. He told the deputies he was outside talking on his phone and noticed four men approaching. He was walking away from the men while talking and at one point turned around as they group rushed at him.
The assailants beat the victim into unconsciousness. He reported that one of his assailants had a handgun tucked into his waistband during the assault.

Third time's a charm
CHARLESTON - Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredos seemed to be a vehicle of choice for the criminally minded last week as the Charleston Police Department received reports about criminals stealing, or attempting to steal, three separate Jeeps.
Between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 1:37 p.m. Thursday, police received a reports of a 1996 Laredo stolen from an Orange Grove Road apartment complex, a 2000 Laredo that was broken into on Raoul Wallenberg Drive and a 1997 Laredo that was also broken into on North Woodmere Drive. In both cases of the 2000 Laredo and the 1997 Laredo, a window had been smashed and the steering column tampered with. Nothing was reported missing from either car.
In the case of the 1996 Laredo that was stolen, the owner told police the car was locked and legally parked, but there were no signs of broken glass in the parking space. Also approximately $2,100 worth of power tools were in the vehicle at the time it was stolen.
