Surfers flock to Folly as Hurricane Irene Makes Waves
Washout packed as Hurricane Irene sends larger than usual waves up East Coast
FOLLY BEACH -- Scores of surfers bobbed in the waters off Folly Beach's Washout along Atlantic Avenue Wednesday afternoon as area surfers took advantage of the larger than normal wave Hurricane Irene began pushing ashore Wednesday.
High tide hit at 4:30 p.m. as the waves pounded the rocks lining the roadway along the stretch of the island that was flattened in 1989 by Hurricane Hugo.
High tides on Thursday will arrive at 4:51 a.m. and 5:25 p.m.
