Wreck knocks out traffic lights on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard

Utility pole knocked over by SUV

CHARLESTON - An SUV plowed into a utility pole at the corner of Sam Rittenberg Boulevard and Charlestowne Road on Tuesday evening around 6:00 knocking it over and sending at least one traffic light crashing to the ground and two other lights dangling a few feet above the street.

Charleston Police blocked off the intersection and were redirecting traffic as far back as Sumar Street on the southbound side of Sam Rittenberg, while a fire engine stood by and utility crews shut off the power to the affected lines and prepared to repair the damage.
