1. Get your goat: Forest Acres considers allowing goats for lawncare. What's Columbia's policy? (postandcourier.com) — Columbia already lets residents and businesses use goats for short-term “prescribed grazing,” and nearby Forest Acres is now weighing whether to copy that policy. City officials there are debating staffing and enforcement, while a goat-landscaping company that’s worked in Columbia parks and at USC says demand is growing across the Midlands.
   

2. Local American Legion Post celebrates military services birthdays (thecolumbiastar.com) — Richland County American Legion Post 6 in downtown Columbia has spent six months honoring each military branch’s birthday with cake-cutting ceremonies and guest speakers. The post also hosts regular monthly meetings and an all-veterans breakfast, giving local service members and veterans a place to connect, share stories, and stay involved.
   

3. Columbia gang member gets over three years in federal prison (wach.com) — A Columbia woman identified as a gang member has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison after firing a gun during a 2023 shooting at a nightclub on Broad River Road. Investigators say she was already on probation and barred from having ammunition, and she’ll also face three years of supervised release after prison.
   

4. A major water leak just flooded a Columbia street. What we know. (thestate.com) — A broken 12‑inch water main sent water gushing under Superior Street in Columbia’s Rosewood neighborhood Thursday, buckling asphalt and briefly cutting service to a few homes. City water officials say the aging cast‑iron pipe is part of an 80‑year‑old system now being replaced, and warn that full repairs and repaving could be extensive and delayed until temperatures warm above 50 degrees.
   

5. She learned CPR at her new American Heart Association job. Two weeks later, she saved her dad's life. (heart.org) — A Columbia family’s holiday gathering turned life-or-death when 68-year-old Murray Mitchell went into cardiac arrest at home, and his daughter Rachael used newly refreshed CPR skills to help save him. After intensive treatment, he recovered and returned to an active life, and now the family is sharing their Columbia-based story to encourage neighbors to learn hands-only CPR and stay on top of heart health.
