Here are the top three stories today in Hilton Head:
- Forbes named Hilton Head among the best small towns for summer travel, ranking with five other towns. The list highlights Hilton Head Island for its natural beauty and golf courses; Del Mar, a coastal community with luxurious beach estates and a horse racing track; Lake Placid, famous for hosting two Olympics and offering outdoor activities; Cape Cod, known for its beaches and seafood; and Lake Forest, a quiet getaway near Chicago. Waterville, Maine was also mentioned as an emerging arts and culture destination. (Forbes)
- The Hilton Head Island Packet published an opinion piece that shared how developers are killing the magic star of South Carolina’s Lowcountry. The article discussed the rapid development and loss of the Lowcountry's charm in South Carolina and criticizes the construction of large vacation homes, gated communities, and commercial establishments replacing the region's natural beauty and historic neighborhoods. - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the death of an inmate found unresponsive in their cell at the Beaufort County Detention Center. The inmate's death has been determined to be a suicide. The county is offering grief counseling to the staff involved; no further details regarding the incident have been released at this time.
