Donate Blood on Last Day of Lexington County Public Safety Blood Drive

The first-ever Lexington County Public Safety Blood Drive Competition is coming to a close, and Lexington County EMS is asking residents to give blood to the American Red Cross this week.

Lexington County EMS is competing with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department and the Lexington County Fire Department for the most donors. The sheriff's department and fire department already held their blood drives.

The Lexington County EMS blood drive will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at 407 Ballpark Road in Lexington. 

Donors will be entered to win prizes from Cycle Center, Fatz Café, Flight Deck, Frank’s Car Wash, Larry’s Subs, Lexington Dry Cleaners, Outback Steakhouse, Travinia’s, Wateree Dive Center and more.

The Lexington County Public Safety Blood Drive Competition is an effort to help the American Red Cross get more donations because the agency has received many fewer donations than expected in June and July.
 
Nationwide, donations through the Red Cross were down approximately 10 percent in June, resulting in about 50,000 fewer donations than expected. The shortfall is similar to what the Red Cross experienced in June 2012.
