Giving Back In Lexington: Local Causes To Support This Season

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages people to give back to their communities, typically through charitable donations, volunteer work or acts of kindness. It takes place annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving in the U.S., right after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Cancer of Many Colors (CMC) is dedicated to supporting cancer patients by addressing their basic needs and helping them improve their quality of life. Inspired by personal experience, the CMC Foundation was established to raise funds within the local community to alleviate the financial burdens that cancer can bring. Volunteer opportunities are available for those who wish to contribute to CMC's mission and make a positive impact on the lives of cancer patients.

Nancy K. Perry Children’s Shelter

Since 1972, the Nancy K. Perry Children’s Shelter has been a safe haven for thousands of children in Lexington County who have experienced abuse, neglect or abandonment. Beyond providing shelter, the facility offers a loving, family-like environment with houseparents, access to education, church, medical care and counseling. Volunteers are welcome to help support the children, and monetary donations are also accepted to continue providing essential care and resources.

Uplift Encouragement Group

The UPLIFT Encouragement Group provides individuals facing chronic illness or disability a supportive space to share their experiences, knowledge and hope with others on a similar journey. Volunteers can assist by helping with newsletters, mailings, prayer teams and maintaining resource materials. Donations, whether in the form of materials, time or funds for group activities, are always welcome and help sustain the vital support UPLIFT offers.

The Courage Center offers a safe and supportive environment for individuals and families navigating recovery from substance misuse and substance use disorder.
