1. ‘Why pull the rug?' Some Lexington Apartment tenants face potential rent doubling (wistv.com) — Tenants at Lake Lodge Apartments in Lexington County are reeling after new management signaled some rents could jump from about $700 to $1,400 as soon as January, with only month‑to‑month agreements in place. Residents worry about potential homelessness right after the holidays, while a legal advocate explains how lacking a signed lease leaves renters with few protections during ownership changes.
   

2. Police: Batesburg-Leesville officers shoot suspects who they say hit officer with car (wltx.com) — Batesburg-Leesville police say a traffic stop on West Church Street turned violent after a driver suspected in crimes at multiple Lexington County businesses allegedly struck an officer with a car. Officers then shot and wounded two suspects, and both the officer and suspects were taken for medical treatment as investigators processed the scene outside a nearby gas station.
   

3. South Carolina man's shot multiple times and dies, Lexington County coroner says (thestate.com) — A man was shot multiple times and killed Tuesday at the Waters at Berryhill apartments in the Lexington County portion of Columbia, near Malfunction Junction. The Lexington County Coroner identified the victim as 30-year-old Kendall Lemont McTeer, and deputies are still investigating, with no arrests or motive announced yet.
   

4. Powerball jackpot soars to $1 billion with no winner (counton2.com) — Lexington residents who played Powerball should double‑check their tickets, as a $50,000 DoublePlay winner was sold at Pitt Stop #41 in town. With no jackpot winner, the Powerball prize has climbed to $1 billion, and players have 180 days to claim any winnings from the recent drawing.
   

5. Person wanted in connection with Cayce homicide taken into custody (abccolumbia.com) — A homicide suspect long sought in connection with a 2021 Cayce shooting has been arrested after a tip from North Charleston police. Investigators say Alberto Osorio Mendoza, accused in a fatal argument-related shooting, is now being held without bond at the Lexington County Detention Center on a murder charge.
