Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Myrtle Beach’s Futrell Park gets a facelift. According to WMBF, "visitors to Futrell Park will soon see a brand new playground complete with safety renovations and a Storywalk. The renovations will be in addition to the new splash pad the city council announced for the park in August. “The Parks Division will install two play structures, a swing set and an artificial turf playground covering,” the city announced. Decorative fencing will be added around the play area to keep children safe and a Storywalk, similar to what is around the walking path at Grand Park, will also be installed." See you there soon with the little ones! (WMBF)
- The Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta is the Super Bowl of musical theater and 24 students from Myrtle Beach Area Children’s Theatre are heading to the festival to perform their piece, “Frozen Jr.” According to WBTW, "students from around the globe travel to Atlanta to compete in showcases and take part in master classes. … The students will be heading to Atlanta to compete this weekend." Good luck! (WBTW)

- According to a Myrtle Beach Police Department Facebook post "the Myrtle Beach Police Department has charged Raahkeem Orlando Young, 33, of Myrtle Beach, with felony animal cruelty and failure to properly bury animals following an investigation in which four deceased pit bulls were found in a dumpster between November 15 and December 26. On November 15, animal control officers responded to 2005 Greens Blvd. after a person found three deceased pit bulls in a dumpster inside a plastic tub covered in feces and urine. The adult female dog was starved and had a broken foot. The two six to eight-week-old puppies were drowned. Through the investigation, officers learned Young was responsible for animals. On December 26, 2022, Animal Control officers responded to the same location for a ten to twelve-week-old pit bull puppy in a plastic tub that was discarded next to the same dumpster. Officers learned the puppy died of illness and drowning. Young was connected to the case after officers located a receipt discarded with a puppy that led officers back to Young using cameras from the store and the city traffic and street cameras. Young is charged with four counts of felony animal cruelty and four counts of failure to properly bury animals. He was taken into custody on Saturday, January 7, 2023, and released on a PR bond later that day. This is still an active investigation.
