- The winners of the 2023 Myrtle Beach International Airport Student Art Contest are in. According to a Facebook post on the airport’s page, "1st Place: "Andaman Coast" by Sarah Fortman, Waccamaw High School. 2nd Place: "Maiko in Japan" by Kloe Gregory, Socastee High School. 3rd Place: "Christ the Redeemer" by Chris Van Pablo C. Mantal, Myrtle Beach High School. Honorable Mentions: "Swiss Alps" by Katherine McCollum, Myrtle Beach High School "Next Destination" by Hailee Robinson, Academy for the Arts, Science and Technology "Rome" by Jenna Johnson, Georgetown High School. - According to WBTW, "The Myrtle Beach Police Department is investigating after a person was dragged by a moped Friday afternoon after a suspect allegedly took their purse, the department said in a Facebook post. The incident happened in the 900 block of Oak Forest Lane shortly after 1:30 p.m., according to authorities. The suspect allegedly took the victim’s purse from their shopping cart and attempted to drive away on a moped. The victim grabbed the suspect and was dragged behind the moped in the parking lot before eventually stopping it, according to authorities. The suspect was detained by bystanders until officers arrived at the scene. The victim has non-life-threatening injuries and is receiving treatment, according to authorities. Police say the name and charges for the suspect will be made available once formal charges have been made. No other information is available at this time.(WBTW)
- Numbers from the Myrtle Beach International Airport show that in 2022, nearly 3.5 million passengers traveled in and out of the airport. According to WMBF, "[That number] is a 7.7 increase from 2021. As the number of travelers continues to grow, this also means people want to see improvements at the airport. Airport leaders said changes are on the horizon in order to accommodate the uptick in passengers." (WMBF)
- Do you want to go to a gala? According to the WMBF you can join the Junior League of the Grand Strand for a Gala on Saturday, January 28, from 6-10 p.m. at 21 Main at North Beach Plantation. This event is open to Junior League Members and guests. Community members 21 years or older welcome! Ticket includes a gourmet meal, open bar, entertainment by N’ Tranze, and 360 photo booth while enjoying the elegance of 21 Main.
