Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Those wishing to be vendors at the upcoming Spring Fest event on April 8 in Myrtle Beach need to be aware that there are currently online vendor scams happening. To protect yourself from these scams be sure to contact Greg Moody at 843-918-2361 or Ed Lewis at 843-918-2355. Getting in touch with these two gentlemen is the only way to apply to be a vendor at Spring Fest. (WBTW)
  2. Here is a success story for you! Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) graduate, Dana Crowell, was recently promoted to the chief of police for the city of North Myrtle Beach Police Department. Chief Crowell is a 2004 graduate with an associate’s in applied science criminal justice technology degree at HGTC. Congratulations Chief Crowell! (Press Release Desk)
  3. More family fun is right around the corner! Stars and Strikes Bowling is holding its grand opening event on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its newest location in the Coastal Grand Mall. The event promises to be filled with an array of special discounts, giveaways, door prizes and more. According to wpde.com, "the 52,000-square-foot facility includes 24 bowling lanes, a 10,000-square-foot arcade, a multi-story laser tag arena, axe throwing, delicious chef-crafted cuisine and a large full-service bar surrounded by big-screen TVs for sports." Hope to see you there! (wpde.com)
  4. Horry County seniors are asked to beware! A scam targeting the elderly is ongoing. Scammers are reportedly targeting those in the senior age bracket, offering to do home repair services, asking to be paid in cash, starting the jobs and never finishing. Seniors are urged to use local, licensed, insured, professionals for all jobs. Licensed professionals should be able to offer verifiable references and show you a local business license. Protect yourself!(wpde.com)
  5. Do you love Bundt cakes? A new bakery specializing in just these tantalizing treats is coming to the Grand Strand. Offering ten different flavors, as well as bundtlets, (personal-sized bundt cake) the bakery, which is calling itself, "Nothing Bundt Cake," located at 112 Layola Drive, will be holding a ribbon cutting celebration on February 17 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. All guests will receive a bundtlet. Twenty percent of all proceeds of sales from the day will reportedly be donated to Champion Autism Network (CAN). Hope to see you at the ribbon cutting! (wpde.com)
