Here are the top four stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- To celebrate National Puppy Day, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is helping pets in need and collecting much-needed donations for the Grand Strand Humane Society. According to wpde.com, "the supplies needed include Purina Kitten Chow, Purina Cat Chow, Friskies Pate Canned Cat Food, Pedigree Dog Food (canned or dry), laundry detergent, paper towels, bleach, towels, blankets, pet beds, 55 gallon garbage bags, liquid hand soap and non-clumping cat litter. Donations can be dropped off at the chamber's Oak Street office between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until March 23."(wpde.com)
- City Council members voted to pass the first reading for all 13 rental companies who requested their decals this year to operate. However, Mayor Bethune requested that a future workshop be scheduled to discuss the issue. What the companies are asking for would result in more than 698 golf carts, and 173 mopeds to be allowed to drive through the city this year. (wpde.com)
- The first-ever Short Par 4 Girls Palmetto Tournament of Champions is coming to Myrtle Beach this fall. On the weekend of September 16 and 17 the best of the best in high school golf, in the Carolinas, will descend upon the area to play 36-holes at the True Blue Gold Club. We can't wait! (Holy City Sinner -)
- Looking to add to your family and have a positive impact on the world at the same time? Perhaps it's time to adopt a pet! Pet adoption agencies in the Myrtle Beach area have dogs, cats and other animals ready and waiting for someone to take them home. There are thousands of dogs, cats and other animals of all ages without a home throughout South Carolina — and many are located not too far from you. On a search for a new fur child? Consider starting at a local rescue facility. If you aren't sure if you have time to take care of a pet year round, many shelters also offer opportunities to foster pets until they are placed. With help from our friends at Petfinder, Patch has compiled this week’s list of animals available for adoption near you. Whether you’re looking for cuddles or companionship, one of these animals could be the perfect fit for your family. (Myrtle Beach Patch)
