Here are the top three stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- The Myrtle Beach City Council has unanimously approved a list of road improvement proposals for consideration in Horry County's Ride IV project, which aims to enhance transportation infrastructure using funds from tourism and taxpayers. The projects include widening 38th Avenue North, improving the U.S. 17 and Robert Grissom Parkway interchange, resurfacing city roads, and implementing Seaboard Street improvements. The final decision on whether these projects will be included in the 2024 ballot now rests with the Horry County Council. (wpde.com)
- Over a dozen flights at Myrtle Beach International Airport have been canceled ahead of the busy 4th of July travel weekend. Adverse weather conditions have been causing recent travel headaches for the east coast, resulting in over 6,000 U.S. flight cancellations and roughly 32,000 delays since Saturday. The American Automobile Association forecasts an 11.2 percent increase in air travel compared to last year, with 4.17 million Americans expected to fly for the holiday weekend. (WMBF)
- Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) is removing financial barriers by offering low to no-cost tuition options through the South Carolina Workforce Industry Needs Scholarship (SC WINS) for eligible students in critical industries like nursing, engineering, and manufacturing. The SC WINS scholarship provides up to $5,000 and covers nearly 70 programs offered by HGTC. To qualify, students must be South Carolina residents, maintain a 2.0 GPA, and complete the necessary documentation. Additional information on the scholarship can be found at hgtc.edu. (WMBF)
