Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. 'Rock 'N Paws' is going to be epic! Combining a love for animals with a love for music, Barefoot Landing will host the first ever “Rock ‘N Paws” live music event, March 3-5 at Dockside Village. The music will be playing while representatives from local animal shelters will be doing fundraising, accepting donations and offering other information. In addition, some very special shelter dogs may be available for a meet-and-greet. We will have to wait and see! Participating restaurants will be offering food and drinks and Miracle Max and the Pet Monsters will perform from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 3. The music will continue from noon until 8 p.m. on March 4 with tunes from Sassafrass, the Craig Sorrells Project and the Grocery Store Gentlemen. The final day of the event, from 1 to 6 p.m. on March 5, will feature performances by the King Tide Band and the Sweet Sweet Band. Hope to see you there! (WBTW)
  2. Homelessness in the area is a growing problem and to get a handle on the numbers and circumstances that surround this problem volunteers in Horry County and across the nation worked with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development recently and went out into the streets to conduct a census and a point-in-time survey. According to Myhorrynews, "this year, the official PIT count began Wednesday, Jan. 25, but the numbers won’t be available until April. The data collected helps local nonprofit organizations receive more funds from federal grants and in turn provide better care and more space for homeless people." (Myhorrynews)
  3. Dreams really do come true. Just ask A Cup Full Mobile Cafe owner Aubrey Cooke who started her coffee business with just a trailer hooked up to the back of her SUV and now she has a spot to call her own, where her customers can come in out of the rain, relax, enjoy her coffee and spend time with one another. The new home base is located on the Grand Strand in downtown Conway. Stop by and say hi. (WMBF)
  4. In an effort to protect the safety of the city’s pedestrians from being injured or hit by a motorized vehicle during the time of the year when its beaches are the busiest, the city of North Myrtle Beach is possibly moving toward putting time restraints on when bicycles would be allowed on the city’s beaches. The North Myrtle Beach City Council proposed a new ordinance in a meeting this week to allow motorized bicycles, e-bikes and traditional manually powered bicycles to be operated on the beach only outside of the hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from May 15 through Labor Day. According to Newsbreak.com, "the ordinance passed the first reading at city council [Tuesday] night, and will move to a second reading at a later date." (Newsbreak.com)
  5. The investigation regarding the shooting that happened outside of Loris at the Squirrel’s Nest Bar and Grill Saturday night around 1:40 a.m. injuring four people is still ongoing. Horry County police are asking that anyone with any information contact them at the tip line at 843-915-8477. (WMBF)
