- According to the Myrtle Beach International Airport, "it’s time to vote! The entry period for the Myrtle Beach International Airport 2023 Student Art Contest has closed and submissions can now be viewed on our website! Horry and Georgetown County High School students created artwork to depict an international destination they’ve been to or hope to travel to in the future. You can vote for your favorite submission here: https://www.flymyrtlebeach.com/artcontest/ You can only vote once per person, so choose wisely! The voting period is open until 11:59 PM on January 18. Winners will be announced/notified on January 20. Best of luck! Horry County Schools Georgetown County School District." (Myrtle Beach International Airport via Facebook)
- In February a new entertainment venue will be opening in Myrtle Beach. Get ready for Stars and Strikes state-of-the-art laser tag arena, 105 games with 150 player stations, electronic axe throwing, bowling and more. According to WBTW, "Georgia-based Stars and Strikes expects to open its third South Carolina location in February at the Coastal Grand Mall, bringing more than 100 new jobs to the Grand Strand. Stars and Strikes, which already has locations in Irmo and Summerville, will occupy space at the mall previously held by Dick’s Sporting Goods. Myrtle Beach will be the company’s 16th location." - According to wpde.com, "Spring registration for Coastal Carolina University's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) program opened Wednesday. Olli is an enrichment program for adults 50 and older. For a membership fee of $20, you can have access to a wide variety of courses, special interest groups and excursions and campus and community benefits." (wpde.com)
- With a goal of preventing further beach erosion there is a new program in the works to move storm drain discharge offshore. According to WBTW, "construction on the $35 million North Myrtle Beach Stormwater Outfall Program is underway at the 18th Avenue North beach access, the release reads. The 16th and 18th Avenue North beach accesses are closed for construction. Construction is expected to take about one year. Intermittent lane closures on Ocean Boulevard and other surrounding streets are to be expected." (WBTW)
