Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- With the hopes of making this year's Earth Day on April 22 even more special by adding a grand opening of Futrell Park, the City of Myrtle Beach in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity is currently putting the finishing touches on the revitalization of the park and splash pad in the heart of the community. Upgrades to the park will make it more attractive and usable park for area residents. The final landscaping upgrades are being completed now and a ribbon cutting is tentatively set for April 22. Hope to see you there! (WMBF)
- With the onset of spring break, a focus on underage drinking on the Grand Strand is in full swing. If a minor is found being served at a bar, the minor will be charged, the bartender will be charged, administrative action will be taken against the licensee and the bar itself. If the business has a pattern of serving minors it can lose its liquor license. In addition, any adult or business that serves an underage drinker who is involved in a car crash can be held responsible under the state’s civil laws. (WBTW)
- Drivers take note! Sections of William Finlayson Road and Waccamaw Medical Park Drive in Horry County will be closed on Sunday beginning at 7 p.m. through 6 a.m. to install new drainage culverts along the roadways. Please be aware and take precautions and extra time if needed. (WMBF)
- North Myrtle Beach Fire Department, Chief Garry Spain is set to retire after serving for 35 years, the last eight with the North Myrtle Beach Fire Department. His twin brother is also a fire chief. Once retired he and his wife plan to move to be near their son and be active with their church. According to WMBF, "for six-term Mayor Marilyn Hatley, seeing Spain go is bittersweet. “He has brought so much integrity and has worked with all of our firemen. He is loved by all or our firemen and women,” said Hatley."(WMBF)
- If you're in the market for a new place, there's a good chance you've already browsed through all the internet listings for your area. And while you presumably have gotten a decent idea of what these houses are like from the images, you just can't beat an in-person encounter with the real thing. To help those looking for a home in the Myrtle Beach area, we’ve listed five recently listed homes, with information included on the next scheduled open house.
