Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. This is an amazing story! After getting lost on vacation in Myrtle Beach in 2020 a dog has finally been reunited with his owner and best friend, thanks to kind hearts and social media. Roscoe the pitbull mix was on vacation in Myrtle Beach with his owner Calvin Day when the two were separated. Calvin, who lives in West Virginia, was devastated and it was his sister Racheal who saw the social media post about the lost dog from All 4 Paws Animal Rescue that reunited her brother with his dog. "In my heart, I was just like ‘you know what I’m just going to post it to Facebook’ I’m not going to put the name of the dog, the gender, nothing. And two hours later someone commented ‘oh my gosh, that’s Roscoe. That’s my dog missing from West Virginia. I was like ‘what’ and they were like ‘he’s been missing for three years,'" Peyton Kennedy, with the rescue said. So glad there was a happy ending to this story! (wpde.com)
  2. Many local employers throughout Myrtle Beach are searching for new employees. Whether you're looking for full-time or part-time work, opportunities are still out there. Each week, Patch and ZipRecruiter compile a roundup of the latest local jobs listed in the region. Here are some of the top jobs now available in Myrtle Beach and across greater South Carolina. 3. According to WBTW, "two people were injured Monday morning in a pair of crashes involving five vehicles near Conway, according to Horry County Fire Rescue. HCFR responded at 7:17 a.m. to the crashes, which blocked lanes of traffic in the area of E. Highway 501 and Savannah Bluff Road. One of the wrecks involved two vehicles and the other one three. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety is investigating." (WBTW)
  4. If you enjoy biking on the beach you'll want to read this. According to Myhorrynews, "the proposed amendment to the Beaches and Waterways chapter of the North Myrtle Beach Code of Ordinances would ban bicycles on public beaches from May 15 to Sept. 15 between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., according to public documents. This change could ban the use of “bicycles, tricycles or similar human, gas, or electric powered wheeled vehicles. During a Dec. 5 meeting, council voted to postpone discussing the possible change until a public workshop could be held. The workshop has not yet been scheduled. The City of Myrtle Beach already has similar rules in place. (Myhorrynews)
  5. A healthy New Year's resolution is on most people's lists, which is why the YMCA’s new ‘Healthy Habits’ program is here to help. According to WBTW, "the YMCA of Coastal Carolina is helping its members find a sustainable new habit, but more importantly, helping them stick to it [with] the new “Healthy Habits” program, a collaboration with Tidelands Health. YMCA CEO Ryan Finney said he noticed a lot of people struggling to keep up with their new year goals. “People are struggling with how to hit goals and how to know what lifestyle changes we’re aiming at,” Finney said. According to the National Center of Biotechnology Information, it takes three months to form a habit. The Healthy Habits program is 90 days long, making sure members have enough time to solidify their new habits. The program is also a bit of a challenge. The YMCA keeps a leaderboard at the front desk so members can see how their peers are doing with their new habits as well. The program is for anyone at any stage of their life. At 83 years old, Joyce Waxman is the oldest member of the YMCA. She has a very important new year’s goal. “My New Year’s resolution is to live to be a hundred and be very, very healthy at a hundred,” Waxman said." (WBTW)
