Here are the top three stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Tragedy struck early Sunday morning when a structure fire claimed the life of one person and sent another to the hospital with injuries. 2. Declan Maloney, a senior at St. James High School and an avid member of the ‘Pride of St. James’ Marching Band in Murrells Inlet, was chosen as the Carolina Country Music Fest Be Kind Initiative recipient. Declan, who lost half of his arm to bone cancer still found a way to continue his passion for music, with the help of Chuck Capps, Director of Bands at St. James High, who construct a harness that supported Declan's aspirations to “march on.” Declan is now able to play without his harness and fulfill his dream to play with the University of South Carolina Marching Band. He has been notified that he has been accepted into the school. Declan in honor of being the recipient of the award, Declan was gifted with a weekend of good times, country music and some extra special surprises by the CCMFBeKind crew. Congratulations Declan, here's to making all your dreams come true!(wpde.com)

From my notebook:

  • The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach: Nubbins came to us in December with a severely injured tail. Most of it had been degloved and it had to be immediately amputated. Nubbins’ recovery took a little longer, as this sweetie was in a lot of pain, but she has improved so much! Nubbins is quite playful and loves to run around the shelter in the morning. This frisky girl can’t refuse a toy! She also enjoys having her extra soft fur rubbed. Nubbins is a curious little girl, but she is not a fan of other felines. We’re baffled as to why people keep passing her up. To meet Nubbins, please call 843-249-4948c or you can submit an application at https://humanesocietynmb.org/cat-adoption-form/.

  • The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach: "Want to help make a shelter dog more comfortable while they camp out here at the shelter waiting for a forever home? Order a snuggly fleece pad that is specifically designed to cover the Kuranda beds that we use for the dogs here" (The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach via Facebook)
  • South Carolina Artists: "New SCA exhibit at Crepes & Croissants featuring original works by Annette Rivers, Lisa Barber & Elisabeth LaRose. #southcarolinaartists" (South Carolina Artists via Instagram)
  • Myrtle Beach Pelicans: "February is American Hearth Month and Conway Medical Center is celebrating with their "Heart-to-Heart Challenge" encouraging everyone to take the first steps towards better heart health with exercise, nutrition, and self-care!" (Myrtle Beach Pelicans via Facebook)

That's it for today! I'll see you around.
