Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Enjoy the last two days of MarshWalk Restaurant Week today and tomorrow. The event will wrap up this weekend with a special Taste of the MarshWalk on Saturday and Sunday. This event provides people with the opportunity to walk up and down the MarshWalk and nibble on food each restaurant has to offer. Adam Langford, front-of-house operations manager for the Claw House and Dead Dog Saloon restaurants told WBTW, "it’s a chance to get creative. It’s a good time of year for the restaurants to kind of showcase some creativity because we’re all redoing our menus this time of year,” Langford said. “This gives us an opportunity to throw something out there that may or may not show up on the menu for the full season.” So, if you are looking for something fun to do this weekend, check it out! (WBTW)
- Recognized for her big heart, empathy and verve to serve others, Megan Nolasco is the most recent recipient of Jefferson Award that has been given out monthly for 50 years to leaders who inspire action. Nolasco does just that, she mentored in Horry County schools, volunteered with the South Carolina Guardian Ad Litem program representing children’s best interests in court-appointed cases and worked with the Eastern Carolina Housing organization, a program helping provide housing assistance to veterans. She did all this while also pursuing her degree in sociology at Coastal Carolina University. In 2017, she opened Good Vibes Therapy Center in Myrtle Beach, where she now provides counseling services to children, adolescents and adults. In addition, she recently started a community closet for those in need. Congratulations Megan, great job!To nominate a person in your community click here. (wpde.com)
- Thirty-four-year-old Kara Morgan Cribb, is reportedly facing DUI and child endangerment charges. She crashed her car into a Myrtle Beach pond Tuesday evening. According to WMBF, "the child in the car was able to get out of the vehicle, but officers [had to] jump into the pond to break the windows and pull the driver out." (WMBF)
- After spending weeks in the Carolinas, helping in the search for Tyler Doyle, the missing 22-year-old boater, voluneers with the nonprofit group Wings of Hope are packing up and heading home, back to Wisconsin. The group provided sonar, drones and K9 units in the 32-day search for Doyle who was reportedly last seen on January 26 in the North Myrtle Beach area heading out on his jon boat to go duck hunting. Since no body has been found, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and the Civil Air Patrol are continuing their search as long as weather conditions allow. (WMBF)
- Looking to add a furry friend to your family? Look no further than these Myrtle Beach animal shelters for a pet available for adoption. Many shelter animals are still looking for their forever home and shelters are still working to place pets with families. For those looking to adopt, a great place to begin the search for your new fur child is at Grand Strand Humane Society, where Pixie the dog is waiting patiently, or another local animal shelter. If you aren't sure if you have time to take care of a pet year round, many shelters also offer opportunities to foster pets until they are placed in permanent homes. Here at Patch, with a little help from our friends at Petfinder, we create a list each week of all the pets recently put up for adoption in your area. If you're a dog person, meet Huckleberry , a Mixed Breed mix up for adoption. If cats are more your thing, there are several great cats available, too.(Myrtle Beach Patch)
