  1. Getting in the holiday spirit, on Saturday, first responders bought gifts for children in need. According to wpde.com, "Dozens of children and first responders flooded the aisles of Target in Myrtle Beach for “Shop With a Hero.” It’s an event that’s been happening for decades and has helped hundreds of children in need. "It’s a time to give back to the community, give back to the children and this is what makes my job worth doing," Master Cpl. Shea Clarkson said. Clarkson has been participating in the event for 16 years. Thirty-two kids, ranging from pre-K to second grade, were selected by their teachers and counselors. Many of them come from tough backgrounds or low-income families. With inflation, the program saw fewer donations – which it relies on. However, for the lucky ones who participated, they got $100 towards clothes and another $100 for whatever else was on their wish list."(wpde.com)
  2. Fun Warehouse has been named the December Leading Business Of The Month. According to a press release from the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce "Fun Warehouse is our Leading Business of the Month sponsored by South State Bank for December. Fun Warehouse offers family-friendly fun for all ages with a soft play inflatable area, laser tag, go-carts, arcade games and the large roller skating rink. Located off S.C. 544 just past Beaver Run Boulevard near Surfside Beach, Fun Warehouse can host groups, schools and birthday parties." Congratulations Fun Warehouse! (Press Release Desk)
  3. Fun and furry Oreo, a two-year-old, playful active dog, is the News13 Pet of the Weekend for Dec. 10-11. According to WBTW, "Oreo is currently in foster care with the Grand Strand Humane Society. He has been with the GSHS for about five months, according to GSHS spokesperson Kathy Robinson. “This dog loves everybody. Cats, dogs, kids and adults, just everybody,” Robinson said. He would make a great addition to any family that enjoys keeping busy. Dog adoption fees are waived. According to Robinson, anyone who adopts a dog will receive a leash, toy, harness and dog bed. The GSHS facility for cats located at Tanger Outlets on Highway 501 will reopen Monday." (WBTW)
  4. According to WMBF, "one person was hurt after a crash Saturday on Highway 17 Bypass, according to officials. Horry County Fire Rescue said the two-vehicle wreck happened in the area of South Strand Drive at around 7:45 a.m. The person hurt was taken to the hospital. No additional word was provided on their condition. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating." (WMBF)
  5. Horry County Democrats met recently to talk about the midterm elections. According to wpde.com, "the Democrats won Georgia's seat this week allowing them to keep the majority. A political professor from Coastal Carolina University, Holley Tankersley, said midterm turnout was high. She said young voters are driving numbers, so now the goal for Democrats is to figure out how to keep them coming to the polls." (wpde.com)
