Here are the top four stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Why not bring a cat or dog home for the "pawlidays?" According to wpde.com, "The Horry County Animal Care Center is hoping some elves living along the Grand Strand will bring some cats and dogs home for the 'pawlidays' this season. In part of its new two-part program, HCACC is looking to place as many shelter pets in a home during Christmas. The first option is permanently adopting and taking home a cat or dog. All adoption fees are being waived until 2023. The second option, if your family isn't ready for a fur-ever commitment just yet, you can help out the shelter in another way. The HCACCC is also looking for short-term foster homes to give animals a break from their kennels on Christmas. Interested fosters can visit the shelter on Thursday, Dec. 22 between 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to see what furry friends are available. The Horry County Animal Care Center is located at 1923 Industrial Park Road, Conway, SC 29526.(wpde.com)
  2. According to WBTW, "a man won a $1 million lottery prize in the Myrtle Beach area while he was on his way to work, according to lottery officials. The winning ticket was sold at Murphy Express at 557 International Drive, officials said. The $10 ticket won the man, who wished to remain anonymous, a $1 million prize with odds of 1 in 1,440,000. ... Instead of going to work, the man picked up his wife and they drove to Columbia to claim the prize, which he said he’ll use to expand his business. ... Murphy Express received $10,000 for selling the winning ticket." (WBTW)
  3. Be mindful of the outside temperatures. It's getting cold and animals need to have appropriate shelter. According to the The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach's Facebook post, "it shall be unlawful to leave a dog outside and unattended during extreme weather. If there is an alert from the National Weather Service for extreme heat, cold, hurricanes, tornadoes, thunderstorms, wind hail, etc., please bring your dogs indoors! If you see a violation, please contact North Myrtle Beach Animal Control immediately at 843-280-5511!" Let's keep everyone healthy and safe this holiday season! 4. A fire over the weekend near Aynor, leaves three people displaced, but no one was hurt. According to WBTW, "three people were displaced Saturday night following a house fire near Aynor, according to Horry County Fire Rescue. Smoke alarms alerted residents to vacate the home, according to HCFR. No injuries were reported. The three people displaced in this fire will be offered assistance from the American Red Cross of South Carolina. No additional information was immediately available. The fire remains under investigation." (WBTW)
