Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- There was an unusual rescue made recently by employees who work at the Myrtle Beach SkyWheel. They reportedly found Joel, the pet cockatiel, just hopping around 100 feet in the air while they were doing their daily wheel check. One of the employees held out his arm and Joel flew to him and hopped into his hoodie. The duo climbed down the SkyWheel ladder to safety. According to wpde.com and a Facebook post, "Joel had been missing since Feb. 25." He was reunited with his owner.(wpde.com)
- With the goal of marketing Coastal Carolina University to visitors, a new Teal Nation store has opened. Taking advantage of the 16 million plus tourists that spend time at Broadway at the Beach boardwalk each year, this is the ideal location for CCU to reach new perspective students. In addition, the store is offering new job opportunities. (WBTW)
- Looking to add a furry ball of four-legged love and affection to your family and give back to the Myrtle Beach community at the same time? Adopt a dog, cat or other kind of pet from a local shelter or organization! Some animals right here in the Myrtle Beach area are still waiting for their forever homes. Here at Patch, with a little help from our friends at Petfinder, we've amassed this week’s list of animals available for adoption near you. If you're a cat person, meet Gretel, a Domestic Short Hair up for adoption. Or if dogs are more your thing, there are several great dogs available, too.(Myrtle Beach Patch)
- Now with the same capabilities as an EMS crew, the Surfside Fire Department is an advanced life support agency. With the widespread shortage of paramedics across the country, it is imperative that fire personnel have the first responder response time and training. The new training allows the fire department staff to administer IVs, EKGs and certain medicines they were not able to before, however, it does not allow them to transfer a patient to a medical facility.
