Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. As you may have heard the "Chinese balloon" was "hit" roughly six miles off the South Carolina coast Saturday afternoon. Pieces of the balloon are being collected by the US military, however, some of those pieces may wash ashore. If you come across a stray piece, contact your local law enforcement agency for collection. Debris should not be touched, moved or removed. Such items are part of a federal investigation and tampering with them could interfere with that investigation. The non-emergecy number is 843-280-5511. (North Myrtle Beach Police via Facebook)
  2. There has reportedly been an uptick in coyote sightings and attacks in the Grand Strand area. The Humane Society explains that coyotes are usually afraid of humans; however, winter is mating season, which means there is more coyote activity right now. If you see a bold coyote approaching, the Humane Society suggests that you yell, wave your arms, stomp your feet while approaching the coyote and make lots of noise, throw sticks, small rocks, cans, tennis balls or rubber balls. In addition, whistles and spray bottles can be easily attached to leashes for walking pets to help keep you and your pets safe. Be aware and stay safe! (wmbfnews.com)
  3. February is Black History month and the City of Myrtle Beach will be hosting its annual Black History Month Celebration on Saturday, February 25 at 6 p.m. in the ballroom at the Mary C. Canty Recreation Center. The event includes speakers, dinner and musical performances. The theme is “Rhythm with Our Roots: A Celebration of Black Musical Heritage." The event is being sponsored by Myrtle Beach's Neighborhood Services Department. According to wpde.com, "Attendees are being asked to wear semi-formal attire, African attire is recommended. For additional details and to RSVP, contact April Johnson at 843-918-1061 or email neighborhoodservices@cityofmyrtlebeach.com." (wpde.com)
  4. When you’re looking for a new place, keeping tabs on all the latest listings can take hours of tedious research online. That’s why we’ve gone ahead and done the initial work for you.
Here are the five latest homes to go up for sale in and near the Myrtle Beach area — such as a home with 3 beds and 2 baths for $315,000, and another with 6 beds and 3 baths for $374,000. (Myrtle Beach Patch)
