Here are the top three stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- According to WBTW, "the News13 Pet of the Weekend for Dec. 31-Jan. 1 is Granger, a dog with the Grand Strand Humane Society. Granger is approximately five or six years old and came to the GSHS as a stray, according to GSHS spokesperson Jess. “He loves meeting new people,” Jess said. “He is great with new dogs. He is going to be a wonderful addition to any family.”'(WBTW)
- A memorial will be held today at 6 p.m. to honor a late North Myrtle Beach officer killed in line of duty. According to WBTW, "a special memorial honoring late Sgt. Gordon Best will be held today in North Myrtle Beach. It will be held at 6 p.m. at the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Building, according to the city. Friends, family, local leaders and Best’s fellow officers are among those who will be in attendance. Best died on Jan. 1, 2021, while responding to a call at Barefoot Resort in rainy weather conditions, the city said. Best was traveling on Highway 17 when he lost control of his police car, veered into another lane and crashed into a utility pole. “Sgt. Best will always be remembered for his dedication to a wonderful family. He will be remembered for his life and his sacrifice in the line of duty. He will be remembered for protecting the public as an honored member of the North Myrtle Beach Police Department,” the city said in a Facebook post."(WBTW)
- Do you want to go over the edge? Now you can do just that! According to WBTW, '"The Over the Edge", fundraiser will be in North Myrtle Beach on Feb. 25. The event was organized by New Directions CEO Kathy Jenkins. New Directions, assists the homeless population in Myrtle Beach. Participants [of the fundraiser] will walk down the side of the Avista Resort from the 17th story. Community members who don’t want to participate are still able to watch the other participants. There are 92 slots open for residents of the Grand Strand who want to sign up. For more details on how to register and raise money, visit the event’s website." Hope to see you there! (WBTW)
