Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- In an effort to make more affordable housing available in the Myrtle Beach area, city leaders listened to representatives from Habitat for Humanity who presented a workforce housing strategic plan suggesting that the city collaborates with them. The city council is set to vote on the workforce housing proposal on Tuesday, February 14. Habitat for Humanity is ready to begin work with developers, over the next 18 months, if the proposal is approved. (wpde.com)
- Following in the footsteps of her generous mother, Murrells Inlet resident, Christine Nelson, is working tirelessly to ensure that high school girls who may not be able to afford their own prom dresses have gowns if they need them. Christine is keeping this act of kindness going in honor of her late mother Joan who started the dress collection nine years ago. According to wpde.com, Nelson who is the director of Joan England's Promises said, "We need more dresses." Their goal is to have 200 dresses to give to Myrtle Beach High School. Anybody who wants to donate can drop off dresses at Kelly's Consignment Boutique in Murrells inlet." (wpde.com)
- It wasn't Mother Nature that flooded Winna’s Kitchen, forcing it to close. Instead, it was a busted water heater above the restaurant that burst, which caused the water damage. As of now, a reopening date has been set for the restaurant on March 1st, fingers crossed. The business is new to Myrtle Beach's Main Street, having opened its doors in September of 2021. (WMBF)
- The Myrtle Beach Police Department wants you! Looking to fill approximately 50 vacancies, the department is holding a recruitment event on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Warren S. Gall Police Annex. According to WMBF, "Cpl. Chris Starling said, “We want to make sure everybody’s safe, and the more officers we have, the better.”' (WMBF)
