- Myrtle Beach resident Emily Ford was arrested for allegedly providing contraband to prisoners at Lieber Correctional Institution in Ridgeville, South Carolina. The South Carolina Department of Corrections revealed that the charges stem from a 2021 investigation when a FedEx package containing tobacco, phones, digital scales, ear pods, and suspected marijuana was intercepted at the prison on Aug. 9, 2021. Ford later confessed to sending the packages at the inmate's request, as stated in the arrest warrant. (WMBF)
- The Horry County planning commission held a workshop to discuss potential developments, including a proposal for over 100 townhomes near Carolina Bays Parkway and Enterprise Road. Oceanfront Builders, LLC, the current property owner, seeks to rezone it for mixed residential use. The request could potentially be approved at the Jul. 6 meeting of the county planning commission. - On Thursday, state leaders unveiled the Disaster Relief and Resilience Act, a comprehensive plan aimed at reducing flooding and evaluating vulnerable areas in South Carolina. The act mandated the application of the Strategic Resilience and Risk Reduction Plan, which offers 54 recommendations to build a more resilient Palmetto State. Major points of the plan include public awareness campaigns, nature-based solutions, and collaboration with local communities and governments for better disaster preparedness. (wpde.com)
