  2. Be mindful of where your Christmas trash goes! According to WBTV, "the big trash bag filled with wrapping paper, ribbons and bows is a Christmas morning staple, but it is important to be mindful about where that waste is tossed out. Victoria Johnson, the recycling coordinator at Horry County Solid Waste Authority, said it can be tempting to throw all that wrapping paper into the recycling bin, but doing that does a lot more harm than good. “Wrapping paper is a really tricky one,” Johnson said. “A lot of people think that it’s recyclable, but it’s actually not.” A lot of wrapping paper has foil or glitter in it, which cannot be recycled. Other Christmas staples that need to stay away from recycling bins are ribbons, tinsel and anything string-like. (WBTW)
  3. What to do with your Christmas tree now? According to wpde.com, "Christmas has come and gone but now you have to decide what to do with your Christmas tree. The Horry County Solid Waste Authority said they are encouraging people to take one extra step to make the holidays green and bright by recycling their trees after the season between Dec. 26 and Jan. 26. Anyone wanting to recycle should remove all lights, decorations including tinsel and the tree stand. Bring the tree to a designated area to be chipped and recycled into free landscaping mulch that will be available to all citizens while supplies last. (wpde.com)
  4. Tragedy strikes! According to wbtw, "a woman died in a fire early Monday morning in Darlington County, according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee. Crews responded to the fire at about 4 a.m. Monday on Hidden Creek Road off of West Old Camden Road, Hardee said. The woman’s body will be autopsied. Her name has not yet been released. No additional information was immediately available." (wbtw.com)
