- Join the North Myrtle Beach Police Saturday, January 28 as its team will be taking the PLUNGE for Special Olympics! According to the North Myrtle Beach Police Facebook post, "the Myrtle Beach Polar Plunge is part of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Torch Run, and 100% of the funds raised directly benefit athlete programs around our state. If you would like to come to show your support to our team, we will be taking the plunge at 10:30am at Sands Ocean Club Resort on Shore Dr. in Myrtle Beach. - Let's see who has the most delicious mac and cheese along the Grand Strand? Sign up today to become a cook-off competitor at the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach's 5th Annual Macaroni Mania on Saturday, February 25 and help support the organization. - Students from St. James Intermediate School competed Saturday in the Charleston area for a robotics tournament, First Lego League Challenge Qualifier in Summerville. According to wpde.com, "in addition to programming a Lego robot to complete a set of tasks, [the students] created an innovative project for a better energy future. They designed a device to harness renewable energy from sink wastewater. If St. James Intermediate qualifies, they’ll compete at the state-level tournament next month in Columbia." (wpde.com)
- According to wpde.com, "Jennifer Wells of North Myrtle Beach High won the High School Teacher of Excellence Award at the South Carolina Council of Teachers of English conference (SCCTE). Having won this award puts Wells in the running for the national-level of the award from the National Council of Teachers of English. The conference was held on January 13 and 14 and Wells said winning was a wonderful surprise because she didn't know she was nominated for it in the first place!" (wpde.com)
