Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- There are sharks in the water so be careful. According to wpde.com, "a large white shark visited the Grand Strand Tuesday morning. This 8-feet-4-inch, 395-pound juvenile male white shark, named Jekyll, pinged approximately 50 miles off the Myrtle Beach coast at 7:58 a.m. Ocearch met Jekyll last month along the Florida-Georgia coastline. - A head-on crash on Highway 90 near North Myrtle Beach ended with one person dead. According to WBTW, "a motorcyclist was killed late Tuesday afternoon in a head-on crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. It happened at about 5:35 p.m. near Pint Circle when a 2018 Indian motorcycle and a 2008 Chrysler collided about 2.5 miles north of North Myrtle Beach in an area west of Water Tower Road. The motorcycle, which was going east on Highway 90, hit the Chrysler head-on as the Chrysler was making a left turn onto Pine Circle, Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway said. The 52-year-old motorcyclist died after being taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Ridgeway said. The 57-year-old driver of the Chrysler was not hurt."(WBTW)
- They're here! Get yours now! Parking decals for Myrtle Beach residents for free parking at city-owned parking meters and the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The two-year decals are reportedly valid for the 2023 and 2024 calendar years. The paid parking season runs from March 1 through October 31. According to WMBF, "the parking decals are available to Myrtle Beach city residents with personal vehicles that “live” in the city limits and on which city property taxes have been paid. “The city counts vehicle property taxes as a parking payment, whether or not the owner ever uses a metered space, the city said in a statement. “Everyone pays for parking, just in different ways.”'.(WMBF)
- Showing support for critically injured Damar Hamlin, the SkyWheel Myrtle Beach shines bright. According to wpde.com, "[the wheel was lit up in red and blue] to show support for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin after he suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field during the NFL's Monday Night Football game. "Our SkyWheel team continues to send our love, support and prayers of healing for Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills," the Facebook page said. It will showcase the colors red and blue in solidarity with the Bills Mafia in Myrtle Beach." (wpde.com)
