Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Getting ready for 2023, Myrtle Beach City Council is looking ahead. According to WMBF, "at a Tuesday meeting, the city council discussed their legislative plans for the next year and decided what will be the top priorities. According to the City Council agenda, the top priorities are economic development, including the revitalization of Downtown Myrtle Beach and the Convention Center. In addition to revitalization efforts, the city council is looking to continue expanding tourism revenues and mental health resources. It said it’s looking forward to a new year full of growth and opportunity. (WMBF)
  2. Good news for Huntington Beach State Park lovers, as of Tuesday night part of the Marsh Boardwalk is back open after getting repairs completed from damage due to hurricane Ian. According to wpde.com,"Park Ranger Mike Walker said "The biggest damage — permanent damage — that we had was actually damage to our marsh boardwalk. A significant portion of the boardwalk was actually washed off the pilings." Walker said parts of the boardwalk were found a mile away near Atalaya Castle and the process to rebuild is still in progress. It is even considering redesigning the boardwalk so it is more structurally sound. (wpde.com)
  3. Making the holidays a little merrier, Bojangles, the Carolina-based fast food chain awarded two Myrtle Beach teachers with happy holidays $500 gift cards. Tamisha Hines and Kim Thomas, teachers who work at Myrtle Beach Primary School, were among 11 teachers to receive the "holiday bonus" as part of Bojangles, 12 Days of Bo*. According to WMBF, "in addition to the Bo-nuses, each teacher’s school received donated books, plenty of chicken, biscuits and tea as part of the celebration. "Economically, it’s been a rough year for everyone – and with the holidays just around the corner and inflation still running hot, a lot of people will find themselves stretching to make Christmas happen,” said Ken Reynolds, executive director of The Bojangles Foundation Fund. “These educators do so much for our children and our communities, and we want to help pay it forward whenever we can. The gift cards will allow them to put a Bo on their holiday plans and will certainly spread some holiday cheer to their classrooms!”' (WMBF)
