Here are the top four stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Making Narcan available over the counter may help save more lives and help to combat the opioid issue on the Grand Strand. According to WMBF, "Myrtle Beach’s Opioid Program Coordinator Michelle Smith recommends everyone have Narcan in their medicine cabinet once it becomes more easily available this summer. “I think anyone and everyone should have it because you never know what kind of situation you might encounter where you could potentially save a life as easy as utilizing a nose spray,” said Smith.(WMBF)
  2. Because of security concerns Horry-Georgetown Technical College has banned all TikTok on school’s Wi-Fi. According to WBTW, "school officials said in an email to students and staff members, ‘In the best interest of our college community following Governor Henry McMaster’s request for all state agencies to block TikTok.’”(WBTW)
  3. The television outside the OD Church of the Lost and Found located at 316 Main Street in North Myrtle Beach was vandalized and the event was caught on surveillance cameras. The church has been open for four years now and nothing like this has ever been reported. The television monitor and folding chairs are reportedly set up in the parking lot area and the monitor displays church services around the clock. According to WMBF, the vandals threw the folding chairs at the monitor damaging it and ripping it down. (WMBF)
  4. The Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center of South Carolina closed abruptly in February without any notice to its patients. According to WBTW, "the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners recently became aware of the situation according to a document provided by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. The center was previously owned by Joseph Masessa until his death in a plane crash in 2019. The practice continued to be operated by a family member of Masessa’s, who is not a licensed physician in South Carolina. The family member employed licensed practitioners who treated patients at the center, though some practitioners were only at the site once per month but regularly practiced elsewhere. Since the office closed on Feb. 17, nobody has contacted the patients in accordance with the board’s policy regarding the ‘closing of a medical practice,’ according to the document."
