  1. Returning after a hiatus due to Covid-19, a special program, created by the South Carolina Supreme Court, designed to give a second chance to those facing homelessness is back in Myrtle Beach. The homeless clients involved in the program experience a wide birth of problems including mental health, lack of transportation and legal issues. The program aims to ease some of those struggles, providing a second chance to those facing less serious misdemeanor charges. During the court session, a judge could have the charges expunged. Chief Judge Joi Page with the Myrtle Beach Municipal Court is set to oversee all of the homeless court sessions. According to WMBF, Page said, “We are not interested in just putting them in jail. That’s not solving their problems or ours." The program is also designed to help explain the court system to candidates and help them get needed resources. “They’re already on the road to self-sufficiency,” said Page. “We become a support and an encouragement to them rather than creating more stress, more problem and more fear.”(WMBF)
  2. With a host of different golf courses to choose from, the Grand Strand is a favorite spot for many golfers, which is why it makes perfect sense for it to be home to a PGA event, which may happen in the next year. Word is that although nothing is finalized at this time, the PGA and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce are in negotiations about a possible event next spring. Fingers crossed! (WBTW)
  3. Birthdays are always a time to celebrate and be thankful. For five Horry County women, 2023 marks significant centennial birthdays. The Horry County Council on Aging held a big celebration for these ladies recently. Virginia Burns and Irene Wagner are turning 100, Joanna Funney and Carmen Contreras will both be 101 and Sallie Kaps is set to turn 104. Congratulations ladies, what an unbelievable accomplishment! (WMBF)
  4. Get ready for the 17th Annual Beaufort International Film Festival, which is set to take place Feb. 21-26 in historic Beaufort, S.C. The mission of the Festival is to enliven the community by fostering and developing a rich appreciation for the art of filmmaking. The purpose of the festival is to recognize aspiring filmmakers of almost every genre including independent film, music, animation, short and long features, documentaries, and screenwriting.
