Man arrested for stealing over two dozen packages at Summerville apartment complex (abcnews4.com) — Residents at a Summerville apartment complex saw dozens of missing packages after thefts from their mail room in late December. North Charleston police say they traced the crime to a resident, recovering many items and booking the suspect into Dorchester County Detention Center.
   

2. Knights leave no doubt in Top 5 showdown (postandcourier.com) — Summerville High School’s wrestling team fell 42–33 on the road to Stratford in a Top 5 showdown Wednesday night, despite six individual wins by Green Wave wrestlers. Summerville grapplers like Dearrian Ford and Brayden Heath earned strong victories, but Stratford’s bonus-point streak in the middle weights and a clinching heavyweight pin proved too much to overcome.
   

3. Kangaroo hops around and makes a splash in a Summerville neighborhood pool (postandcourier.com) — Neighbors in Summerville’s Irongate community were surprised this week when a red kangaroo hopped through their subdivision and briefly fell into a backyard pool off Trolley Road. Residents helped rescue the animal before Dorchester County animal control returned it safely to a local veterinarian who lawfully keeps several rescued marsupials.
   

4. Deaths Summary for Friday, January 9, 2026 (postandcourier.com) — Summerville readers are notified of the passing of Lori Lynn Shimko, 66, whose arrangements are being handled through a North Charleston chapel.
