• Biosolids solar dryer enhances capactity and sustainability for Summerville WWTP (wwdmag.com) — Summerville’s wastewater treatment plant has added a $13 million solar biosolids dryer and new belt presses, boosting capacity and sustainability while preparing for population growth. The greenhouse-style system uses sunlight to reach up to 75% solids, cuts disposal volume and energy use, and was built with a strong safety record and advanced design tools to reduce odors and improve reliability.
   

• Classroom Champions: Dorchester County teacher wants to increase student literacy skills (live5news.com) — A Newington Elementary School teacher in Summerville is working to boost 4K students’ literacy with a needs-based, play-focused classroom. She hopes to add Tonieboxes, screen-free audio book devices, so each child can independently enjoy stories at the right level and build a stronger foundation before kindergarten.
   

• Dorchester County special election for SC Statehouse seat gives tight 21-vote margin for Republican (postandcourier.com) — Summerville voters just saw a razor-thin special election for the S.C. House District 98 seat, where Republican Greg Ford leads Democrat Sonja Ogletree Satani by only 21 votes, triggering a likely recount. The district includes parts of Summerville, Dorchester County, and northern Charleston, and the winner will finish former Rep. Chris Murphy’s term and join the Legislature’s 2026 session.
