- The United Way Of Greater Chattanooga will be hosting a two-day volunteer initiative on Friday and Saturday. The event will deploy more than 2,000 volunteers throughout the Chattanooga area. This will be the largest volunteer opportunity held in the Tennessee Valley ever. The volunteers will support a variety of service projects submitted to the organization throughout the year. - Tennessee American Water has started its water system flushing program in Chattanooga. The annual program will be flushing local fire hydrants for several minutes throughout the weekdays. Residents may experience a drop in water pressure when the hydrants are flushed. They may also see slight water discoloration. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
- Chattanooga's Norfolk Southern Railroad employees are monitoring updates on contract negotiations between the country's railroads and unions. If negotiations are not settled, a strike may occur this week. If a strike does occur, there may be nationwide economic consequences. According to the Association of American railroads, a rail shutdown would cost $2 billion in economic output each day. (WTVC)

- The Big Pig BBQ Contest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1 on Chattanooga's Main Street. The contest begins at 10:00 a.m. There will be 20 teams competing and samples will be distributed. (All Events)
- Chattanooga's Oktoberfest will be held on Oct. 8 and Oct. 9 at First Horizon Pavilion. Participants are encouraged to wear German-style attire. Mark your calendars. (Chattanooga Market)
- Chattanooga VegFest will be at Coolidge Park on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16. There will be a selection of vegan foods, shopping, live music, and more. (Facebook)
