Here are the top four stories in Chattanooga today:
- On Oct. 9, the second annual Chattanooga Hip-Hop Week kicks off. The annual event features live concerts, educational experiences about hip-hop and the culture around it, and exhibits by local artists. The signature moment in the week will be the Chattanooga Summit, where some of the most illustrious people in the industry will talk about the future of hip-hop. You can register for the free summit, but there is limited seating. (Chattanooga Pulse)
- Sep. 21 saw the DAR Chattanooga Regents Council honoring Constitution Day. Constitution Day is a federally recognized day acknowledging the formal adoption of the United States Constitution. The date the Constitution was actually signed back in 1787 is actually Sep. 17 — but the council wanted the time to create a special event (and invite some notable guests). The event was hosted by The Chattanooga Regents Council Daughters of the American Revolution in downtown Chattanooga in the courthouse. (Chattanoogan.com)
- An East Brainerd hotel has been shut down by the Chattanooga Code Enforcement. Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndham on McCutcheon Road is now peppered with signs outside warning away any potential trespassers. According to officials, the hotel has been determined unsafe for inhabitants. An investigation into the matter and other potential safety violations are ongoing. (Chattanoogan.com)
- A drag show in Chattanooga was interrupted by a woman yelling slurs at the performers and employees on Thursday. The Ooltewah woman accused them of being "wicked, evil perverts" at Scottie's on the River, while her husband filmed the incident. He later shared the video and admitted he and his wife had planned the whole verbal assault to create a spectacle. While the police were called and the woman ultimately escorted from the premises, no arrests were made. (WTVC)
