1. City Of Chattanooga Partners For Free Curbside Recycling Of Food Scraps And Glass (chattanoogapulse.com) — Chattanooga residents in the Brainerd-area test zone can now get free monthly curbside pickup of food scraps and glass through a new city partnership running through June 2026. Local firm Overlooked Materials turns glass into safe construction and landscaping products, while New Terra Composting converts food waste into compost for area farms, gardens, and schools. Households outside the pilot can still join via low-cost memberships.
   

2. Bypassing China (nashvilleledger.com) — A major industrial complex on Chattanooga’s Riverside Drive is being transformed into Novonix’s flagship plant for producing synthetic graphite, a key material for lithium-ion batteries. The project, backed by large federal grants and loans, is expected to invest about $1.5 billion locally and create more than 500 jobs across the Riverside site and a planned Enterprise South facility, positioning Chattanooga as a key player in the U.S. battery supply chain.
   

3. Chattanooga secures funding to replace bridge that has been closed for nearly a decade (newschannel9.com) — Residents near Standifer Gap Road in Chattanooga are finally getting relief, as the city has secured funding to replace a bridge that’s been closed since 2016 and forced long detours. Officials say they’ll work with TDOT and aim to open bidding this spring, promising regular updates to neighbors who’ve spent years asking when the vital connection would return.
   

4. Tennessee executes man for 1988 rape, murder of 20-year-old Chattanooga woman (wate.com) — State officials have executed Harold Wayne Nichols for the 1988 rape and murder of 20-year-old Karen Pulley, who lived and studied in Chattanooga. Her family, recalling her time at Chattanooga State and Brainerd Baptist High, say the execution cannot restore their loss but ends decades of reliving the crime and ensures he cannot harm anyone else.
   

5. Family relieved After execution of Harold Wayne Nichols (wdef.com) — A man convicted in the 1988 rape and murder of a 20-year-old Chattanooga State student was executed Thursday morning in Nashville, bringing a measure of closure to her family after 37 years. Relatives of victim Karen Pulley described relief that he can no longer harm anyone, while his spiritual advisor called the death penalty in this case unnecessary and unjust.
