Board of Trustees unanimously approves a 4% pay raise for teachers

Grapevine, Texas - The Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (GCISD) recently approved a substantial 4% salary increase for its teachers, marking the most significant pay boost for district employees in its history, Dallas Metro News reported.

This proposal was presented to the board of trustees by Gema Padgett, the Chief Human Resources Officer at GCISD, on May 22 and was met with unanimous endorsement from the board.

As we look ahead to the 2023-24 academic year, the district staff stand poised to reap the benefits of this pay augmentation.

First-year teachers, librarians, and nurses are projected to receive a commencing salary of $59,250. Current teachers, librarians, and nurses are due to benefit from a pay rise of $2,550, corresponding to a 4% midpoint increase. A diverse group of employees, encompassing non-teaching professionals, administrative workers, technology and instructional support personnel, along with auxiliary staff – including the district’s custodians – are scheduled to receive a 4% salary raise from their respective midpoints. A starting hourly wage of $15.50 has been allocated for auxiliary and instructional support staff in the lower pay grades.

"I’m very proud of this raise that we’re giving," board President Shannon Braun stated during the meeting. "We had to make a lot of critical and hard decisions in order to give this raise, so I’m very proud of this."

The Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (GCISD) is also moving forward with initiatives to enhance staff wellbeing. It has been announced that all employees, barring temporary workers and substitutes, will be granted a wellness day off.

This wellness day can be utilized once per fiscal year. This innovative initiative is expected to be implemented at the commencement of the 2023-24 academic year.

"I am grateful for the commitment of our trustees to ensure that the talent, dedication and hard work of our incredible employees is rewarded," Superintendent Brad Schnautz stated in a news release.

The Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District (GCISD) has scheduled a public meeting for June 20 to discuss the budget and potential tax rate for the 2023-24 academic year. As reported by the district’s Chief Financial Officer, Derick Sibley, the proposed tax rate is $1.0769 per $100 of property valuation, a modification from the 2022-23 school year when the tax rate was set at $1.1308 per $100 valuation.
