- Weinberger's Deli in Grapevine (about 20 miles from Dallas) has been named the best deli in the state by Eat This, Not That. With over 120 sandwich options, the Chicago-style deli is known for its hospitality and quality food, including the popular Joe King's Pastrami Sandwich and California Club Sandwich. Owner Dan Weinberger is passionate about the culinary experience and believes that making a sandwich is more than just putting ingredients together, but about the story behind it. (KDAF 33 News)
- On May Day 2023, labor activists in Dallas organized “flying pickets” at Starbucks locations across the metro area, picketing outside with stealthy signs. The group included members of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans, Young Active Labor Leaders, and Communist Party USA’s Dallas-Fort Worth Club. President of the Dallas AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, Gene Lantz, introduced the tactic to Dallas activists and plans to continue using it regularly at fast food restaurants and grocery stores. - A Dallas-based social networking app, Clapper, has seen rapid growth by providing a platform exclusively for adults to connect through short, edited videos, aimed at those who don't feel comfortable on TikTok. Founded by Edison Chen, a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas, the company has tripled its daily active users from 100,000 to 300,000 so far in 2023 and has been ranked as the top social networking app on the Apple Store at times. Clapper is not seen as a direct competitor to TikTok, but rather as a community-based platform that helps creators set up monetization through membership programs or selling things on the platform.
