- The Hernandezes share both a last name and an accolade since winning the Dallas ISD Campus Teacher of the Year award at their respective schools. Angel Hernandez is a fifth-grade teacher at Solar Prep for Boys in Dallas, while his wife Christine Hernandez is a fifth-grade teacher at Solar Prep for Girls in Dallas. The two met when Teach for America assigned them to Dallas. It is an honor to be granted this award as it shows their hard work is being acknowledged as they try to promote students to be the best they can be. This is the second time the couple won the award in the same year, the first time however was when they were dating. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
- This year the Dallas Arts District will be celebrating its 40-year anniversary and is looking back through its timeline and the achievements reached along the way. The district was created in the early 1980s and began only on 68 acres. Now, the district has expanded to 118 acres and is the largest contiguous arts district in the nation and a world-renown travel destination for tourists. There is much to be celebrated with the district's many historic buildings and its USA Today ranking as one of the best art districts in the nation for two of the last three years. - Dallas police are currently investigating a carjacking incident on Wednesday that ended in a shooting leaving one dead and two injured. The incident occurred outside the Quick Trip on S.R.L. Thornton Freeway at Glen Oak Crossing in Oak Cliff when a man was attacked by three suspects and shot back at them in self-defense. The suspects drove immediately to the Methodist Charlton Hospital where one victim died and the other two were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects were taken into custody for the incident as details are being worked out regarding the situation. (WFAA.com)
