- Andrea Tchinda, a Hillcrest High School senior, is celebrating after she landed a full-ride scholarship valued at $86,000 to attend Harvard University starting in the fall. Just five years ago, Tchinda was not able to speak English having moved to North Texas with her family from Central Africa. These days, she's a straight-A student taking advanced placement and college classes and is also captain of the varsity basketball team. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
- The victim of last month's mistaken identity shooting that happened at the 7-Eleven off of Ross Avenue in Downtown Dallas said his plan to join the U.S. Navy has been ruined. Gayle Jones, 18, was shot in the face causing him to lose his left eye and was also shot in his knee. Another victim, 17-year-old Omarian Frazier, was killed in the attack. "That was my dream: to go to the Navy," Jones said. "Now, I got a different dream now: to tell my story to everybody, the whole world so they can understand being in the streets as a teenager is not it for everybody." Dallas police arrested and charged Donald Moore, 24, with murder. (FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth)
- The 15-acre Crespi Estate, once owned by Tom Hicks, former owner of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars, is on the market and officially holds the title of North Texas’ most expensive estate. When it was last listed for sale, the 27,000-square-foot, 10-bedroom, five-bath mansion sought to fetch $38 million. Today, the home, which was built in the 1930s by Italian-born cotton baron Pio Crespi, is listed with a $60-million price tag. (Subscription: The Dallas Morning News - Subscription)
