Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:
- Cuates Kitchen, the award-winning Dallas food truck, officially scored its first brick & mortar location in a high-profile area. The brand-new restaurant will be located on Fairmont St. in an old-fashioned cottage that was once home to the short-lived eatery Modest Rogers. Carlos and Carla Rodriguez, owners of Cuates Kitchen, are currently working on building up their new location and hope to open by mid-to-late May. (Dallas CultureMap)
- On Monday, May 8, an apartment complex in East Dallas acquired heavy damage from a three-alarm fire that happened late in the evening. According to officials, a call came in around 11:00 p.m. about a fire at the Courts of Swiss and when firefighters arrived on the scene, they saw flames spouting from the roof of one of the two-story buildings. After calling for more backup twice, the fire was eventually put out. Firefighters stayed on the scene for most of the night to keep their eyes on certain hot spots. (KRLD)
- Lawmakers in Texas have officially passed a new bill that increases the criminal penalties for any individuals who assault hospital staff members. The bill was originally filed by State Senator Royce West, D-Dallas, and essentially upgrades the charge for the crime from a misdemeanor to a felony. Law enforcement officials said this bill is meant to honor the two Methodist Dallas Medical Center workers who were killed in a shooting late last year. (KDFW)
