Here are the top stories today in San Antonio:
- According to the health-research firm Innerbody, "San Antonio has highest rate of STDs of Texas' big cities." Chlamydia is the most common STD in the city. Research showed that cities with the higher rates of infection are in the South, where healthcare spending is below average. Experts believe higher STD rates are connected with attacks on organizations like Planned Parenthood, and blocking of sexual education. San Antonio Current has more details.
- Rackspace Technology blames the economic downturn for its next round of layoffs. A company spokesperson confirmed that it would be laying off 4% of its workforce, about 275 positions. How many employees at the San Antonio headquarters would be laid off is unknown. "The company says it will provide employees with severance and other resources to help employees with their 'transition.'" Visit the Laredo Morning Times for more details.
- Six UTSA alumni are on The San Antonio Business Journal's 40 under 40 list. "This award recognizes individuals who are accomplished leaders, under the age of 40, who show active involvement in the San Antonio community." Sabah Bayatli, Ali Feili, Joshua Gerken, Jamie Kowalski, Jonathan Tijerina and Katie Vela were the UTSA alumni honored at the Morgan’s Wonderland Event Center. (UTSA)
