7 San Antonio Police Officers Shot Responding To 'Suicide In Progress'
The suspect was found dead inside an apartment after an hours-long standoff, police said.

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Seven San Antonio police officers were shot Wednesday night while responding to a call about a "suicide in progress," authorities said.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Brandon Scott Poulos, was later found dead inside an apartment after an hours-long standoff.
Police described the incident as an "ambush," the San Antonio Express reported.

San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus said the incident unfolded in the Stone Oak neighborhood, where officers arrived just before 8:30 p.m. after receiving a distress call from a family member of the suspect.
As police arrived, a woman emerged from the apartment, reporting that the suspect was shooting inside and was about to come out, authorities said. Moments later, the suspect exited the apartment and opened fire on the officers, hitting one in the leg.

Poulos kept shooting from his apartment and injuring more officers, authorities said.
The shootings prompted the deployment of a SWAT team, which surrounded the apartment as the standoff continued into the night. When officers finally entered, Poulos was found dead, though the exact circumstances of his death remain under investigation, McManus said.
It's not clear if the suspect sustained a self-inflicted gunshot or if a SWAT officer shot the suspect.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the events leading up to the shooting and possible motives.
Poulos had been released on bond three days before the shooting. He was arrested on Jan. 18 for a violation of a protection order, a violent offense, and other crimes, but he was released on bond on Jan. 19, authorities said.
