1. WATCH: San Antonio police share footage of jugging caught at gas station (star-telegram.com) — San Antonio police are warning residents about a sharp rise in “jugging” thefts, with more than 200 cases this year involving victims followed from banks or ATMs. Detectives say thieves tail people, then quickly grab visible cash from vehicles or victims, sometimes violently, across the city and even into nearby Boerne. Officers urge residents to conceal withdrawals, watch for cars following them, and never leave money in plain sight.

2. Officer shot in 2023 ambush takes stand after guilty plea from San Antonio man (ksat.com) — A San Antonio police officer wounded in a 2023 ambush has returned to full duty and testified in Bexar County court about the shooting that nearly killed him and his partner. The officer described the attack at a family disturbance call, its impact on his family, and his belief that taking the gunfire instead of nearby civilians was “worth it,” as the punishment phase continues Monday.

3. Animal care facility expansion aims to boost public safety (news4sanantonio.com) — San Antonio’s Animal Care Services is tripling the size of its clinic in a $15 million, council-approved expansion aimed at reducing dangerous stray dogs and improving treatment. With over 32,000 animals handled last year, the larger facility will boost spay and neuter capacity, which officials say should mean fewer roaming and aggressive pets in neighborhoods. Construction is expected to start in February and finish by late 2027.

4. 'It all adds up': As holiday need grows, one Salvation Army bell ringer's joy rings louder (kens5.com) — The Salvation Army says financial need in San Antonio is surging this holiday season even as volunteer bell ringers grow scarce, putting pressure on programs that fund food and shelter. On the far West Side, retired Air Force chaplain Deborah Hughley is boosting donations with karaoke-style caroling, while officials urge residents to give or volunteer to keep support flowing to local families.

5. An extensively restored 1940 house in Olmos Park just hit the market (sacurrent.com) — A meticulously restored 1940 stone home in Olmos Park is on the market for just over $1.1 million, blending preserved vintage charm with modern updates. The feature ties into an ongoing effort to showcase San Antonio’s historic homes and invites readers to suggest other unique local properties for future coverage.
