Here are the top stories in San Antonio today:

  1. City employee Thomas Rivera was accused of playing golf when he was supposed to be working. The Utility Coordinator with the Public Works Department was fired from his job after an investigation took place. Rivera denied the allegations and said that the recorded tee time sign-ins under his name were made by his friends to get a discount. Rivera was awarded unemployment benefits; however, the city is appealing that ruling. WOAI has the full story.
  2. An SAPD officer shot a man in his 30s who held a knife to his mother's throat. The suspect allegedly assaulted his mother, sister, and girlfriend inside their apartment unit located on the 6600 block of Fairdale Drive. A witness reported coming home to the crime scene where the officer shot the suspect in the thigh when holding his mother with a knife to her throat. This investigation is ongoing and KENS5 has more details.
  3. Get your umbrellas and ponchos out, San Antonio! There is a possibility for severe storms today. Storms are expected to hit around 7 p.m., "eastward to include the I-35 corridor. Some of the storms could possibly contain large hail, damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall." Hail can be 2 inches in diameter. Storms may also carry on into the weekend.
